Principal Investigator: Dr. Leyla Rios de Alvarez
International Collaborators: Carl Julien
Currently being implemented, this project aims to develop and evaluate sustainable, plant-based strategies to control coccidiosis, a parasitic disease that causes significant economic losses in sheep and goat production. Through a new partnership between Mississippi State University and the Centre de recherche en sciences animales de Deschambault (CRSAD) in Canada, the team will gain advanced laboratory skills and conduct in vivo experiments comparing conventional and botanical feed additives. The initiative also involves collaboration with VetAgro, a private industry partner, to test innovative natural products. By building international research capacity and generating preliminary data, the project seeks to lay the groundwork for larger grants and scalable solutions that improve animal health and farm productivity in Mississippi and beyond.
