Currently being implemented, this project aims to advance sustainable menstrual hygiene solutions in Kenyan communities through a three-phase initiative. Building on prior research and community engagement, the current phase (Phase 2) will deliver hands-on training in reusable menstrual pad production, provide menstrual hygiene education in schools, and collect baseline data with local partners. The initiative uses Human-Centered Design and Triple Bottom Line frameworks to ensure products are culturally appropriate, environmentally sustainable, and economically empowering. Outcomes will include trained community members, production of reusable pads, improved educational access for girls, and groundwork for developing biodegradable menstrual products in the next phase. The project strengthens local capacity, supports educational continuity, and positions MSU as a leader in global health, sustainability, and community-driven innovation in East Africa.
