Engagement with Fulbright does not end with the completion of an award. Across Mississippi, alumni and supporters remain connected through a statewide community that fosters continued exchange, collaboration, and public engagement. Through the Mississippi Fulbright Association Chapter, alumni have opportunities to participate in events, networking mixers, and Fulbright alumni panels that bring together Fulbrighters working in higher education, government, nonprofit organizations, and related sectors. These activities provide a meaningful way to stay connected to the Fulbright mission while building professional and personal relationships across the state.
Participation also offers opportunities to support the next generation of Fulbright grantees. Alumni and supporters may help welcome incoming international scholars to Mississippi, assist with campus and community integration, and mentor outbound U.S. Fulbright recipients as they prepare for or reflect on their experiences abroad. These efforts strengthen Mississippi’s Fulbright community while reinforcing Fulbright’s core goals of mutual understanding and international collaboration.
At MSU, Fulbright alumni and supporters can remain actively involved by serving as Fulbright Ambassadors on campus. Ambassadors play an important role in promoting Fulbright opportunities across MSU by sharing their experiences, encouraging faculty and staff to consider applying, and helping demystify the application process. This peer‑to‑peer engagement is especially valuable for prospective applicants who benefit from candid insight and practical advice from colleagues who have successfully navigated the process.
Fulbright Ambassadors may also contribute by serving as panelists during IRDO‑hosted information sessions or proposal workshops, engaging directly with prospective applicants and answering questions about project development, host engagement, and life as a Fulbright grantee. In addition, ambassadors often interact with visiting Fulbright Scholars at MSU, helping support their academic and cultural integration into campus life. Through these efforts, Fulbright alumni help champion Fulbright as a powerful tool for research, teaching, professional development, and internationalization at MSU.
